PYREX. Keep it, don’t sell it.
Pyrex. Keep it, don’t sell it.
Sell my Pyrex? Never.
My parents were given this set as a wedding gift, minus the red bowl. The gift-giver had the same set, and had broken the red one and decided to keep it.
My mama made to-die-for potato salad in the yellow bowl.
I found the red bowl at a yard sale years later, and gave it to my mama.
She finally had a complete set!
That was the beginning of my love of Pyrex. Forget the plastic bowls and lids that cluttered my kitchen cupboards. I wanted the real McCoy! Oh wait, that’s another vintage pottery. (Future post)
Back to Pyrex!
The search began… and continues. I search the shelves at Goodwill stores, thrift stores, and yard sales whenever possible, looking for the logo on the bottom of bowls and plates.
Below are a few of my favorite pieces that I use daily. I’m not one to let them sit on a shelf to collect dust. I enjoy them every day. They are perfect for storing left-overs. I also enjoy seeing treasures that others have found.
I have several stackable red ones like these. My daughter uses them for snacks
Pyrex is trendy now. Everyone is on the search and pulling their mother’s and grandmother’s vintage wares from the cupboards to sell and make a profit.
WHAT? NOT ME!
Some things are worth more than money. Memories.
Think about this for a minute. The Pyrex fad will pass and you’ll be one, or two, Pyrex bowls less on childhood memories.
During the holidays I take a trip down memory lane. My mother’s yellow and green bowls are pulled from my great-great grandmother Fluella’s antique pie safe. The kitchen smells like vanilla, cinnamon, and all that holiday goodness as I blend ingredients for cookies, cakes, and frosting. Sarah, my daughter, enjoys licking the batter.
I have to admit it, I do too.
I have a back up set that I let other people use.
The original set is reserved for Moi!
Go visit your mom, or grandmamma, bring out their Pyrex, and whip up something good.
If you want to start collecting some of your own, check out yard sales and Amazon. Good luck and happy hunting!

I collect Pyrex too. I have two of my mother-in-law’s bowls (red and green) and a few of the rectangle stacking containers. I love them!
Each time a plastic container shows wear and tear it gets tossed and is replaced with pyrex.
