WRITING PROMPTS
WRITING PROMPTS
I just came back from an eight-day writing retreat on St. George Island!
Ten women converged in a four-story house. We wrote writing prompts, edited our stories, read our stories out loud, critiqued, praised each other, laughed, cried, and ate. Oh boy, did we eat! Those women can cook!
Barefoot strolls on the beach in January? You bet I did!
There is so much to share about this retreat. Too much for one blog post. I’ll be sharing more information about the retreat throughout the month of January. This blog will be about a particular writing prompt that I loved writing. It’s titled, WHERE AM I RIGHT NOW.
WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW
The writing prompt is to explain to the reader where you are emotionally and physically. Here is my version.
WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW – Under a pink and paisley quilt with pastel colored starfish on the wall above my head, listening to Pandora on my phone. The house is calm and quiet. Stressing that Rob will sleep through Ruby and Cooper-Clyde whining to go outside to potty at 3 am. Secretly enjoying not having that responsibility for eight more days.
WHERE I AM RIGHT NOW – On the 2nd floor of a four-story house on St. George Island, in East Point, Florida. Making a mental note to turn the bathroom fan on before going to bed, cause I left mine at home. Can’t sleep without the white noise. Panicking about the bad cucumber in the refrigerator at home and wondering if I actually threw it out or just looked at it thinking, “Eww, I should throw this out”.
THERE’S MORE
WHERE AM I RIGHT NOW – Enjoying the comfortable mattress and the fact that I can stretch out like a Leonardo da Vinci illustration. Cringing at the thought of Cooper-Clyde drooling on my pillow at home. Hoping Rob is missing what he lovingly refers to as his ‘white noise” which is me snoring. Thinking the first day of my retreat is done and feeling like it’s going too fast. Praying that my writing has improved since the last time I was here. Hoping it touches someone, makes them cry, laugh, or say, “Dang, Mary that’s some good writing.” Hoping they don’t say, “Dang, Mary, your writing sucks.’
WHERE AM I RIGHT NOW – Wondering if those twelve M&M’s I ate after dinner completely threw me out of Ketosis. Yawning, turning off Pandora, turning on the bathroom fan, and turning in for the night.
Where are you right now?
